Maine Press Association announces contest winners
CAMDEN, Maine (AP) — The Portland Press Herald, the Portland Phoenix, The Camden Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram have won top honors in their divisions in the Maine Press Association annual contest.
The announcements were made Saturday evening at the MPA annual awards presentation that was “virtual” because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Samantha Hogan of The Maine Monitor was named Journalist of the Year. The Bangor Daily News, The Camden Herald and The Lincoln County News won first-place awards in their divisions for Freedom of Information.
Three journalists were inducted into the MPA Hall of Fame: Judy Meyer, executive editor for Sun Journal, Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel; Dieter Bradbury, who retired from the Portland Press Herald after more than four decades in journalism; and Dorothy “Dot” Roderick, one of the first female advertising executives in the newspaper industry.
